Symbian users can’t
get enough of RAM and that is a fact. Having
commonly three or four applications open at the same time, memory hunger on our small little beasts never exist to cease. The Memory Up
application from eMobiStudio promises to tame the beasts within by taking control of the Java Virtual
Machine (JVM) on our Symbian-powered
smartphones, freeing system resources and reclaim
unused RAM for better usage. Further, it claims that
it enhances cell phone’s performance by making
more memory available for both applications and the mobile system. As I rarely run java applications
and mostly Symbian applications will this be of
benefit for me? First impressions The application itself is a java application and
therefore download size and install size is very
small. Just around 150 Kb and you can choose to
install the application on either phone memory or
memory card, though the first option is
recommended. This is because java applications installed on memory card will usually not work
after a firmware upgrade on handsets without the
UDP, User Data Preservation such as the N95. The
application follows the usual install screens and
confirmation of the notifications displayed. One
neat thing is that if you have e.g. a previous version installed it will ask you if you want to keep the
existing save data.
